Ecomass® compounds are a new line of patented, nontoxic thermoplastic composite materials that can replace lead and other traditional materials in many applications.
Ecomass® compounds can be formulated up to the density of lead (11.0 g/cc), but unlike lead, these compounds are not hazardous and can meet some of the most demanding physical property requirements utilizing a variety of polymers and fillers. Best of all, Ecomass® compounds can be injection molded on conventional molding equipment and a new line of extrudable compounds have been developed for sheet and film applications. Numerous formulations are commercially available and new formulations are being continuously developed to meet specific application requirements.
In almost any application where a high-density, high-strength material is required, Ecomass® compounds can be used without the toxicity concerns of lead. Examples of applications utilizing Ecomass® compounds include: projectiles, balance weights, cable sheathing, X-ray tube housings, isotope shipping containers, reactor shielding, radioactive waste shielding, golf club weighting, fuel valve weights, fishing weights, exercise weights, MRI shielding, stethoscope and other medical equipment components and vibration dampeners. |
